Electronic Management for Vintners' Cooperatives

Elwig

Elwig is a specialized software solution designed to support vintners' cooperatives in their core organizational and administrative tasks. The system was developed with a strong focus on real-world workflows and reflects the practical requirements of cooperative wine production – from grape intake to annual settlement.

One of Elwig’s central functional areas is member management. The master data of winegrowers is recorded and maintained centrally and forms the basis for all later processes within the system. This ensures that consistent and up-to-date information is available at all times.

Building on this, Elwig supports the management of grape deliveries throughout the harvest period. During grape intake, the system is used directly in day-to-day operations: Elwig enables integration with industrial weighing systems, supports the structured recording of relevant delivery data such as quantity, variety, and quality, and automatically generates the corresponding delivery notes. Especially during labor-intensive harvest phases, this significantly reduces manual effort and minimizes sources of error.

Another key focus is the annual settlement of members. Based on the recorded deliveries, Elwig calculates the settlement per member, taking into account various criteria such as grape variety and quality. The results are transparent and traceable, providing a reliable basis for the cooperative’s financial processes. The following payout can be efficiently transferred to the banking system via an EBICS export.

In addition, Elwig offers comprehensive options for data analysis and further processing. Relevant information can be easily exported as ODS spreadsheets (e.g., for Excel or LibreOffice) as well as PDF documents. This allows evaluations for internal analysis, reporting, or audits to be created without additional manual effort.

All of these activities – from delivery recording and settlement to reporting and payouts – would require a very high level of time and personnel resources without digital support or when using non-specialized tools. Elwig consolidates these processes into an integrated system, providing significant relief in the administrative day-to-day work of vintners' cooperatives.

The importance of this support is also reflected in the volumes handled: Four cooperatives using Elwig processed approximately 10 million kg of grapes in 2023, around 8 million kg in 2024, and about 11 million kg in 2025. This corresponds to approximately 3.5% of the wine volume processed in Austria. These figures highlight the need for a reliable, scalable, and practice-oriented system.

Elwig thus serves as a digital foundation for the modern organization of vintners' cooperatives – functional, transparent, and tailored to the long-term requirements of cooperative wine production.
